The Paou Congressional and Cultural Center of University of Thessaly turns into a place of “musical coexistences”.
Musicians coming from different musical start-lines, bring their experience and genuine intentions in order to “coexist” with other artists and the audience. Sounds and scents, words and melodies, blend together under the starry sky with the purpose of internal expression and meaningful communication. Paou Festival is based on the voluntary offer of the members and the colleagues of Musical Ensembles of University of Thessaly. I greatly thank the Chancellor of University of Thessaly, Professor Mr. Georgios Petrakos and the Deputy Chancellor of Public and International Relations, Associate Professor Ms. Ioanna Laliotou for their support and loyalty. I am very thankful to all the people who contribute to the implementation of the initiative: the Research Committee and the Property Development and Management Company of University of Thessaly. Additionally, I wholeheartedly appreciate all my colleagues, the members of the Musical Ensembles of University of Thessaly who support our attempt by participating as volunteers and the artists who accepted my invitation. At a time when dignity is attacked, the Paou Festival offers intellectual safety and infuses visitors with the will to join silently in a non-commercial, educative process of exaltation – an elevation that characterizes the authentic function of a university that “creates” culture. In the context of activities that “embrace” the wider educational area of the University of Thessaly, the Property Development and Management Company brings the old monastery back to life and gives visitors and residents the chance to enjoy eminent artistic events. For ten days (18-28 of August) high class artists from Greece and other countries match with the local artistic labor performing a variety of music styles, from baroque to jazz, from folklore to rock, from blues to urban Greek music – rebetiko. Remarkable approaches of Greek music, presentation of new compositions and also traditional dances. This artistic festival starts with the presence of Musical Ensembles of the University of Thessaly. Members and colleagues participate as volunteers for the best prosecution of the events. We have to thank all of you for your support and we wish you a great summer with a lot o music.
